Fifteen-year-old Jordyn Stoddard may seem like a young up-and-comer, but she has already positioned herself as a triple-threat in the world of music. This youth sings with the soul of a seasoned veteran, strums a signature turquoise guitar and has years of songwriting under her belt. She has shared the stage with such country notables as Montgomery Gentry, The Gatlin Brothers, Easton Corbin, Matt Stillwell and Sundy Best.
Stoddard was named 2013 Local Artist of the Year, and her single, “Sayonara”, was selected as the 2013 Local Song of the Year for WQIK-FM in Jacksonville. As such, she was asked to perform on-air during their Best of 2013 Show with John Scott. Currently, she is nominated for a 2013 SFCM Award for Favorite Local Female Solo Acoustic Artist by SouthFloridaCountryMusic.com.
Stoddard began honing her skills at LaVilla school of the arts before expanding into songwriting and live performance. Since then, she has performed throughout Florida at festivals such as the Ham Jam in Green Cove Springs, the Jacksonville Home and Patio show, and the Callahan, Baker County, Clay County and Alachua County fairs. She is also a four-year repeat performer at the Jacksonville Beach Jazz Festival. Hailing from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, she makes the circuit at local hot spots like The Landing, Jackrabbits, The Brick and Cafe 11.
Notably, Stoddard won the Clay County Fair talent competition in both 2011 and 2012 and was highlighted by the Florida Times Union during the Florida’s Next Superstar talent show in 2011. For the past three years, she has been a regular performer on WJXT’s The Morning Show and was featured in their 4 Chords musical series. She has been given the honor of singing the national anthem at multiple televised football and basketball games. In 2013, her career gained more momentum as she moved through several rounds of a nationally-televised vocal talent competition. And in 2014, was selected as the headlining musical act for the Jacksonville stop of the PRS Rodeo Tour.
In 2013, Stoddard teamed up with Mighty Music Group and producer Daryl Phenneger to begin her first album. That year marked the debut of her first single “Hit and Run”, followed by the sophomore release “Sayonara”. Her next singles, “16” and “Beautiful Disasterpiece” are slated to release in early 2014.
Stoddard’s beauty and maturity bring to the stage an elegance beyond her years. Though still an independent artist, this budding superstar has caught the eye of managers with JN Entertainment and South Florida Country Music. In the anthology of American entertainment, performers possess either the charisma or family lineage to carry their names to the top of the billboards. But a rare few manage to capture both. Jimmy G is no stranger to the spotlight, coming from a family rich with entertainment royalty. His cousin, Joe E. Lewis was a premier night club entertainer from the 1920s-1960s and palled around with notables such as Frank Sinatra and Jerry Lewis. As a teenager, Jimmy G would often join his family at era hot spots like The Copacabana and The Tropadero. Today, Jimmy G continues the tradition as a popular performer both on-stage and on-screen.
Jimmy G owes much of his love for the entertainment industry to his early cabaret influences. His reverence of Frank Sinatra, to whom he often performs tributes, spawned from the close relationship between Sinatra and Jimmy Gʼs cousin, Joe E. Lewis. Sinatraʼs movie “Jokerʼs Wild” was even inspired by Lewisʼs life. Lewis was a comedic pioneer, blazing the transition from vaudeville-style shows to the one-on-one comedy we now know as stand-up. He holds records for the most consecutive performances at The Tropadero in California, at 53 weeks, as well as a record-breaking streak at The Copacabana.
In the 70ʼs an 80ʼs, Jimmy G took to the screen, both big and small. He appeared in several popular soap operas, including “As The World Turns”, “General Hospital” and “The Young and the Restless”. He later followed in his cousinʼs footsteps, honing his humor on the sitcoms “Grandpa Goes To Washington” and “Starsky and Hutch”. A true entertainer, Jimmy G has also ran the gamut on-stage, bringing grace and experience to diverse roles in “Cat On a Hot Tin Roof”, “Butterflies Are Free”, “Grease”, and “Ethan Frome”.
Jimmy Gʼs stage and family experiences provided an excellent forum for his musical talents to develop. His smooth, cabaret singing style and comedic interjections hearken back to yesteryear. And his magnetic charisma has charmed audiences from coast to coast, creating a character as memorable as the songs he covers. He has completed several cover CDs, including the most recent, “Romance”. “Romance”also features Jimmy Gʼs first original track “Weʼre Lovers Most of All”. He is currently in the studio working on his fourth album “Itʼs Magic.”
Since erupting onto the scene in 2012, rapper/singer Sweet Lu has been en fuego, burning up the beaches of Jacksonville. This larger-than-life artist spent six years as a backup vocalist before finally deciding to go solo. And now that he has, heʼs proving to be an unstoppable force.
Caracas-born Lu was on the verge of dropping out of high school when he was persuaded to audition for the school chorale. The music beckoned, and at state competition senior year, Sweet Lu answered with a resounding voice. His moving performance of the operatic Caro Mio Bien garnered him multiple college scholarship offers, including Florida State College Jacksonville, where he ultimately connected with one of his “Holiday” producers.
Since then, Sweet Lu has recorded and performed live with Jake Miller and Afroman, as well as several local groups including Fusebox Funk, Sixteenth, Florida Razed and Starnation Productions. He has also been asked to open for Bubba Sparxx (March 30, 2013), Afroman at 420 Fest (April 19, 2013) and Outkast’s Big Boi with Killer Mike (June 7, 20130. Behind the scenes, he has studied recording and engineering under industry powerhouse M. Geezy, producer for T-Pain and Young Cash.
Topping 2,200 YouTube hits in only ten days, itʼs apparent that Sweet Luʼs debut single, “Holiday”, has become an instant success with fans, both domestic and international. Irreverent and carefree, it embodies the individualistic lifestyle embraced by this Vans-wearing artist-on-the-rise. Sweet Lu artfully balances edgy lyrics and hip-hop beats with pop influence, resulting in an uncommon sound that can only be described as a “musical melting pot”.
Sweet Lu was recognized in 2012 by Void Magazine as one of their Local Lookouts for his trailblazing growth and his music has been secured by the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons for promotional purposes. He has been featured in EU, and Folio Weekly dubbed his December EP release show a “reason to leave the house this week”. “Holiday” was even chosen for the soundtrack of the Jacksonville-filmed movie “The Homeboys”. Sweet Lu continues to deliver his own unique blend of street and substance. You can find more on Sweet Lu at SweetLuMuzik on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Even at 15, James Cové knew winning a friendly high school beatmaking competition was just the beginning of his musical career. He had an 808 heart, and now…heʼs got fans that hear it. And like the title of his latest single, heʼs been “Livinʼ the Life”, injecting his rocker soul into infectious pop beats since 2011.
With a songstress mother and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame uncle, James Cové grew up in a musical family. But it wasnʼt until after attending Jacksonville University on a football scholarship that he was able to truly pursue his music. He began in the all-male group Da Pretty Boys, touring with the band from the BET network show 106 & Park. Shortly afterward, he decided to go solo, making appearances on MTVʼs Spring Bling and signing briefly with an independent Florida record label.
James Cové brings a stage presence few can rival. Confident and energetic, he instantly connects with his audiences. His music is undeniably entertaining, laced with feel-good beats, rock irreverence and pop dancability. Couple that with his bevy of dancers, DJs and live bandmates and youʼre set for a headbobbing, fist-pumping, titan of a stage show.
James Cové is sponsored by URK (Us Raw Kids) and Bofresco clothing lines and also recently extended his own reach into the fashion sector, launching the original clothing line NAKʼD, or New Age Kingdom. His line features snapback T-shirts and socks.
